what is business casual?

business casual is term that is meant to allow employees to dress a bit more comfortably than wearing a stiff suit jacket, tie or skirt. Instead it gives employees a chance to have a bit more self-expression, but some employees forget that there are still some set professional rules in place. For instance... when I was working at my summer internship, as a 20 year-old, I was the youngest person in the building and yet I was the most professional when dressing in business casual attire. I wore nice khaki or brown suit paint or at most a skirt that went below the knee, closed toed shoes, either with a small heel or none at all and either button up shirts or shirts that did not show off "the girls" as my mother likes to say. I never expected myself to be the most professionally dressed and became discouraged at how some of the people did dress? I mean as a young adult I even know better to not wear the heels and low cut shirts that these women did! Where is the decency?! My mom is the manager of a local furniture store in town and she has to deal with dress code problems all the time. One woman wears sleeveless shirts and low cut ones all the time. Another time they were allowed to wear capris finally and one woman came into worked dressed like she was going to the beach. Now I understand that people want to be comfortable for work but there is a fine line between being comfortable and being comfortable and still professional!
